TR19 CLEANING

For Ducts and Ventilation

What is TR19 Cleaning?

TR19 Cleaning is a recognised industry standard, published by the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA). It provides clear guidance for the cleaning and maintenance of ventilation systems, including AHUs (Air Handling Units), ductwork, and associated components.

A TR19 cleaning involves:

  • Internal cleaning of supply and extract ductwork

  • Deep cleaning of AHU components (fans, filters, coils, plenums)

  • Removal of accumulated dust, debris, grease or contaminants

  • Inspection and photographic evidence of cleanliness

  • Certification for compliance and audit purposes

.

    Why is TR19 Cleaning Important?

Over time, air handling systems collect dust, microbial growth, and airborne particles. If not cleaned, these can:

    • Impair air quality

    • Create a breeding ground for bacteria and mould

    • Increase fire risk due to dust and grease accumulation

    • Reduce system performance and energy efficiency

    • Compromise compliance with workplace regulations

TR19 cleaning helps ensure your AHU and ductwork system is clean, safe, and functioning at its best—protecting both people and assets.

      Our TR19 Cleaning Services Include:

      • Cleaning of all internal AHU surfaces, including:
▸ Fans, coils, drip trays, filters, plenums and housings

      • Cleaning of associated ductwork and branches

      • Access hatch installation (if required) for cleaning access

      • Post-clean verification with photographic reports

      • Air quality and hygiene testing (optional

        Coil replacement

        Frequent Questions

        u

Is TR19 cleaning a legal requirement?

While not law itself, TR19 is widely used by insurers, auditors, and the HSE as a standard for ventilation hygiene. Many sectors, including healthcare and catering, require TR19-compliant cleaning to meet statutory obligations.

        u

How often should AHUs be cleaned to TR19 cleaning standards?

This depends on system use. For example, healthcare or catering sites may require cleaning every 6–12 months, while office buildings may be suitable for 12–24 month intervals. We can assess and advise based on your building and system.

        u

What parts of the AHU are included in a TR19 cleaning service?

We  can clean all internal components including fans, coils, filters, plenums, panels, and condensate trays, as well as supply and extract ductwork.

        u

Can TR19 cleaning be done out of hours?

Absolutely. We offer flexible scheduling, including night or weekend cleaning, to minimise disruption to your business operations.
